Lesson  5/5   60min

Hi Michael!

Today this interview with Scott Galloway, business professor at New York University Business School.

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/05/scott-galloway-future-of-college.html

https://www.vocabulary.com/lists/7095073

1. Galloway says: The post-pandemic future will entail partnerships between the largest tech companies in the world and elite universities. MIT@Google. iStanford. HarvardxFacebook.  This makes me think of the McDonald's Corporation. They have had a McDonald's University for years.  What do you think of that?

2.  He says: Hybrid online-offline degrees, the affordability and value of which will seismically alter the landscape of higher education.  This reminds me of MOOCs and Coursera.  Have you heard of them?

3. Galloway: There’s a recognition that education — the value, the price, the product — has fundamentally shifted.  This article is from May 2020.  We see that  tuition has NOT dropped but more university education is online at the same price.  Yet, we also see fewer students attending university because of the economy: They can't afford it.  Now the Supreme Court has stopped Affirmative Action for universities. What do you see happening in the future?

4. The reporter asked: How many schools will collapse between now and next year because of decreased enrollment?

Galloway: The big universities can cut costs and rely on their waiting lists, but there’s going to be a strain on tier-two colleges.  He was right about that several colleges have closed.  I think there were too many.

5. Galloway says the strongest brands are not companies like Apple or Coca Cola.  They are universities like MIT, Oxford and Stanford.  They have the highest margins.  Did you know that?

6. Galloway says the future of university education is online.  How do you feel about that?

7. Would you consider getting an online degree?  Have you heard of MOOCs?

8. Do your universities offer online degrees?

9. The U.S. government hires IT workers based on their skills and a college degree is not necessary.

10. Are we heading towards a skill-based market for workers?
